Program Development Intern
Stipend Position

Purpose for this Position

We seek a highly motivated and reliable individual for our internship program. The Program Development Intern will work closely with the Director of Learning and may work with other staff members on special projects or initiatives. The internship will last six months, starting in January 2020 and ending in June 2020. The Intern is expected to work approximately 10 hours per week. Hours are flexible during regular business hours, Monday-Friday. offers two primary programs: Ecochallenges and a series of Discussion Courses. The Program Development Intern will support participation in both Ecochallenge events and Discussion Course programs with a special focus on our Earth Day 2020 Ecochallenge.

The Program Development Intern’s job duties include, but are not limited to:

Program Development

  • Pursuing permissions contracts with identified publishers/authors
  • Developing learning activities, action plans, and other themed curricula in collaboration with Director of Learning and other project team members
  • Proofreading and copy editing program materials
  • Conducting research on sustainability, sustainability leadership, diversity, behavior change, and learning theory
  • Supporting ongoing Ecochallenges
  • Program data analysis and entry


  • Working with Marketing Manager to support social media efforts
  • Working with engagement staff to identify and pursue leads for engagement in targeted programs
  • Assisting with Ecochallenge participant logistics and troubleshooting, including conversations via phone and email

Candidates must be detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to manage multiple tasks at once. The Intern will need to observe deadelines, complete tasks within agreed-upon timelines, and keep a regular schedule.

Volunteer or work experience in the sustainability, environmental, community organizing, or communications fields is preferred. Editing and proofreading skills are desirable. Experience with social networking websites is preferred.

The Intern will work an average of 10 hours per week (with some weeks having more hours during Ecochallenge event periods). A schedule that works with both the candidate and staff will be established before the internship begins.


The intern will receive a $1500 stipend for their work. Timing of stipend payments to be determined. is also willing to assist students in receiving class/internship/practicum credit (if eligible through your university).
