Ecochallenge Platform

Purpose for this Position

As the lead offering of Ecochallenge.org, the Ecochallenge Platform is a digital tool for sharing, learning, and taking measurable action on sustainability solutions. Global public and custom events are hosted online by Ecochallenge.org and a network of community partners and corporate clients. Behavioral psychology and gamification are used to foster long-term changes in habits and values. As a community nonprofit in the digital space, there are truly unique aspects of this work that make this position a rare and compelling opportunity.

The Product Lead (PL) will be responsible for the vision and development of the Ecochallenge Platform. As part of a small team, the PL will work with consulting developers, event and platform support personnel, and be responsible for the overall product roadmap sourcing insights from program and engagement leads. Additionally, in collaboration with the Executive Director and with support from the Digital Operations Manager, the PL will hold a lead role in the sales and project management for custom clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Product Roadmap - with data analysis support from the Digital Operations Manager and in collaboration with the Director of Programs, use both quantitative (Google Analytics, platform reports, etc.) and qualitative (user feedback and surveys, feature testing) to steer future strategy and development
  • Organizational Strategy - in collaboration with the Director of Programs and Executive Director, develop long-term vision for product that aligns with brand, programmatic ecosystem, and fundraising model of Ecochallenge.org
  • Product Development - generate, receive, and analyze requests from staff, partners, and custom clients; manage lifecycle of platform release schedule (new features, bugs, general housekeeping) from conceptual design to comprehensively testing on staging site to measuring intended use in the production environment; coordinate with internal and external parties impacted by specific releases as appropriate
  • Product Design - lead UX/UI design process and implementation driven by user research and platform data; hire and oversee UX/UI contractors as needed
  • Success Metrics - with input from all staff, define and consistently assess key metrics for measuring success at all levels of use - individual users, organization / team leaders, partner networks, and custom clients
  • Budgeting - manage development expense lines for ongoing and specific project budgets
  • Personnel - working with Executive Director, create and rollout long-term personnel plan for platform development, both engineers and UX/UI designers
  • Custom Event Options and Pricing - in collaboration with engagement leads, set custom event pricing levels and define platform features and services
  • Custom Event Prospects - in collaboration with engagement leads, provide platform demos and guidance on event options and pricing including custom development requests as needed to generate estimates and final contracts
  • Custom Event Management – after contracts have been signed, work with client leads as main contact, to design custom events including features, content, and user triggers and controls
  • Custom Requests – in collaboration with platform engineers and clients leads, explore feasibility, functionality, pricing, and implementation for custom development requests
  • Event Creation – oversee Digital Operations Manager in the creation of and support for public and custom events
  • Support – manage platform support personnel and serve as an expert resource for resolving issues, employing platform developers as needed; provide platform demos as needed to partner and leader networks
  • Post Event – oversee Digital Operations Manager in completing post-event reporting and data analysis to populate event summary design and product management processes

Skills Required

  • At least 2 years experience in digital product management
  • Working knowledge of UX/UI best practices principles, HTML/CSS, development tools (GitHub preferred), and project management tools (Basecamp / Asana preferred)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a flexible and adaptive manner with a range of personnel, partners, and clients, communicating broad value propositions and moderating product jargon as needed
  • Experience working or volunteering with technology-centered nonprofits, grassroots social change initiatives preferred
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail, including accuracy and efficiency
  • Excellent time-management skills, including the ability to balance competing priorities
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel

Salary and Status

  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • FTE: Full-time, 40 hours / week (exempt)
  • Location: Remote work possible, Portland-based preferred
  • Salary: $60,000-65,000 / year
