ABOUT EARTH MONTH ECOCHALLENGE

People and Planet: Resilient Together

For the month of April 2026, we took action to create a better tomorrow for people, nature, and future generations. This year’s theme, “People and Planet: Resilient Together,” focused on resilience: the capacity to adapt, recover, and grow stronger through change. Resilience lives in people, in communities, and in the natural systems that sustain us.

"Joining the Ecochallenge feels like a small step towards making a bigger difference. When doing things individually, it matters, but collective effort as a team makes it more fun and we can encourage each other along the way. I'm excited to be more intentional in my daily habits and to learn more about how to reduce my impact on the environment."

— Denise

"The Ecochallenge proved to me that the resources are readily available for people like me to substantially reduce our emissions and help mitigate the effects of climate change on the oceans."

— Grace

"Over the past days, I made small but intentional changes—reducing waste, being mindful of energy, choosing reusables, and paying closer attention to my everyday habits. It wasn’t about being perfect, but about being aware and consistent. What I’ve learned: sustainability isn’t a one-time effort, it’s a mindset. The little choices add up, and they matter more than we think."

— Jhoan

"Due to this challenge, I have been able to find ways to conserve water. I have been able to reduce outdoor lighting. Usually, my family keeps them on at night, but I've been turning them off. I learned that they are distractions that will lead to accidents for animals such as birds. My mental health has been improving, and I've been getting more sleep than usual."

— Ghennezis

"This ecochallenge is needed at this time of year, to allow myself some time to pause each day and focus on what I find to be important."

— Alison

"Participating in this Ecochallenge has been a really meaningful experience. It made me more aware of my daily habits and encouraged me to make small but sustainable changes, such as reducing waste, saving energy, and choosing eco-friendly options."

— Shirley

"When you can change your thinking from 'What am I going to receive?' to 'What am I going to give?', your entire life begins to turn around.

By giving to nature—through actions like reducing waste, conserving resources, and protecting wildlife—you contribute to the health and future of our environment."

— Ahmad

"My Ecochallenge Resilience story: Many stories about planetary health make me grieve. As a palliative care chaplain, I have learned that one of the best ways to cope with grief is to find a community of support. it may sound cheesy, but events like the Ecochallenge help to feel part of a tribe, of a group with a common purpose. Thank you to every one of you for your efforts. They make the present and future planet a healthier one for me, my family, and my patients."
